Restoring Mini Monitors

Hi,

First, thanks for putting up a very informative site.

Next, I have a pair of Cizek mini monitors.  They are in nice shape and sound wonderful.  The price to me was perfect.  Several years ago my brother-in-law was walking his dogs in a park and spotted a couple of very dirty lumps sticking out of a dumpster.  Recognizing them as speakers he hauled them home and called me... knowing of my passion for old high-end audio.

They had no grills, the woofers needed new foam surrounds and refinishing.  I re-foamed the woofers and proceeded to refinish the cabinets.  I began by saturating the wood with boiled linseed oil working it into the wood with 000 steelwool.  After about an hour the beauty of the Koa wood shone through.  There wasn't a scratch anywhere, just a lot of dirt.  Wiping off the excess oil I let them stand to dry for a couple of days.  Then connecting them to an SAE Mk IIIB amp with classic Monster Cable I sat down to listen.

Wow!  So clean!  Fantastic representation of the human voice.  Although the bass isn't deep due to the small woofers they are very exciting to listen to.  I'm going to build a subwoofer to go with them.  And, try to figure out a grille for them.
